Design Priorities
Top Priority
Ride Quality
When we started conceptualizing this bike, we wanted to focus on more than just weight and stiffness. We put a premium on ride quality, because ride quality and speed go hand in hand. Ride quality also makes long days better, and inspires confidence on thrilling, twisty descents.
Tool, Not a Jewel
Durability
In this day of making the lightest possible bikes, we want you to take comfort in the knowledge that your bike is built to last. We rigorously test our bikes during the design and manufacturing stages to ensure they meet strict international safety standards.
Light But Not Too Light
Weight
Without compromising ride quality or durability, we made the Pure Road as light as we could. Frame weights range from 850-1000 grams for the Ride-Tuned layup depending on rider size and power. Fully built, the typical bike weighs between 15 and 16 pounds without compromising long-term reliability or safety.
No Compromise
Result
The result is a road bike that will become your go-to bike for racing, training, and big miles. It is a “stage race” geometry, jack-of-all-trades carbon fiber road bike you can grab for just about any ride.
The stiff chassis is perfect for rolling the hills, standing on the climbs, and sprinting through the finish.
The low bottom bracket gives the Pure Road a smooth feel and the ability to corner fast and stick to the ground. All of which inspires confidence when descending technical roads at high speed.
Tire Sizes
This is no “Gravel Grinder,” but we recognize the trend toward larger tires. Although counter-intuitive, larger tires are faster. They roll smoother and produce less wasted energy. They are more comfortable on long days and they grip better in turns. The Pure Road can comfortably fit 28-mm tires and in some cases even larger, depending on the tire and rim combo.
Tapered Steerer & IS Headset
We use an Internal Standard (IS) 52/41 headtube for a clean transition between frame and fork. The fork has a 1.5-inch tapered steerer for crisp steering response and sharp handling.
Cable Management
Internal cables with a modular guide system accommodate cables, wires and hoses. We only include the guides you need for the shift system you select, so there are no unused cable guides. We also offer fully integrated cables as an option.
142×12 Thru-Axle and Flatmount Brakes
This is the de facto standard for all high-end bikes. The thru-axle stiffens the chassis and assures that the wheel is always located exactly where it needs to be. We also incorporate a replaceable derailleur hanger and use titanium sleeves in the dropout to reduce wear and protect the paint.
Flat mount brakes give a clean traditional look to a modern system.
Round 27.2 Seatpost
While an aero post may provide a small advantage, we consider comfort a higher priority. We chose to use a round 27.2-mm seatpost for its compliance. We also use a standard external seat clamp because they keep the post in place while avoiding seizure or damage to the frame from over-tightening.
T-47 Bottom Bracket
We think bottom brackets should be threaded. And we think threads should be metal. So we bonded in a titanium T47 bottom bracket insert. This ensures easy maintenance, prevents squeaking, and fits just about every crank out there.
Tuned For You
Custom "Ride Tuned" Layup
Part of customizing your Pursuit is ride-tuning the perfect layup for you. We tune the layup not only to optimize weight and stiffness but include other considerations such as impact resistance and vibration damping.
We use your goals, priorities, frame size, and bodyweight to balance a smooth ride and vibration reduction with stiffness for out-of-the-saddle efforts without sacrificing comfort when seated.
If you’re a larger rider, hammer, or someone that regularly throws down 1,000-plus watts, we will strategically add material for additional stiffness. If you seek added durability, we will add material to the top tube and seat stays to further strengthen areas that are prone to impacts or damage in a crash.
