Our Order Process

Due to our small size and limited output, we are able to sell consumer direct. That means you work directly with the people who are making your bike. Below is a description of each of the areas we will cover when designing your bike.

Stock or Custom Built-to-Order

If you are easy to fit, we stock a few of the most common sizes ready to paint with your color preference and your bike will ship in just a few weeks. If you require custom sizing, layup or options, we’ll build a frame just for you.

If you know what size you need, contact us to see if we have it in stock.

Step One

Interview

If you’ve never ordered a custom frame before (or even if you have), it’s our job to adapt to your level of technical knowledge or interest. So don’t be intimidated if you don’t feel you know enough to order a frame. Furthermore, if you don’t feel like you can offer accurate information, don’t worry. We know how to protect you from yourself. We’ve been designing and building custom frames for over 25 years and we understand the mistakes people can make. Our process is designed to get the most accurate rider information to ensure perfect sizing and component selection. We will identify any problems long before any final decisions are made. The process is fun and although waiting may be hard, it’s worth it.

Everything starts with your $1,000 deposit. After we receive your deposit, we will contact you via email to set up an interview and guide you through the ordering process. We can interview via phone, Skype or email. From frame size and layup to component choices, wheelset, and paint, we tailor everything to ensure perfect sizing and component selection. Every Pursuit is as unique as its owner.

Step Two

Fit and sizing

During your interview, we will discuss fitting options and choose the best one for you. If you know your fit, just tell us what it is and that’s what we’ll use. If not, you can either go to a local fitter and provide us with the information from that fit, or we can do the fit remotely. We have over 30 years of fitting experience and thousands of happy customers who can attest to our precision.

If you choose to have us do your fitting, we’re going to give you some “homework.” What we’ll need you to do is collect your body sizing and the size and setup of your current bike(s). You can read instructions on how to take these measurements here. This is where people get a little nervous, but don’t worry. We’ll know if you screw up, and we’ll help you with any questions you have. Our main goal at this stage is to understand your current riding experience and compare it to what we would expect based on your body measurements.

If your current bikes fits well—or even perfectly—that information is helpful. Equally as useful is your current bike information if it fits or handles poorly. The key is to learn what you like and what you don’t like. We’ll develop an objective guideline and define a common language we can use to communicate with each other.

Step Three

Layup

Part of customizing your Pursuit is designing the perfect layup for you. These layup designs not only optimize weight and stiffness but include other considerations such as impact resistance and vibration damping. Once we have your height, weight, and an understanding of your riding priorities, we’ll will tailor the layup  just for you.

Step Four

Colors and Paint

More often than not, this is the hardest choice for our customers. Frame and fork include one custom color paint job with a single custom color logo set. Color choice is nearly unlimited.

Logo set includes PURSUIT on the DT, Headbadge graphic, “Racetrack” logo on the seat stay and “Layup” decal on the seat tube.

If you want your frame or stem painted to match, we can do that. Are you getting fenders? We can paint them to match as well. We also offer several Pursuit paint schemes and do full custom paint schemes. Just let us know what you’re interested in and we’ll figure it out.

Step Five

Parts

Not only do you have full control over the parts spec’d on your Pursuit, all parts are sized just for you. The following parts are sized for your bike:

  • Bar width
  • Stem length and angle
  • Seatpost offset
  • Crank length
  • Front gearing
  • Rear gearing
  • Brake rotor size
Step Six

Delivery

Now that your bike is built, we’ve got to get it to you in one piece with no damage. That means we take extra care in packaging. It may take you a half of an hour to unwrap it, but at least it will be in perfect condition. If you ordered a complete bike we’ll have to remove some parts to fit it in the box, but it should only take a couple minutes for a qualified mechanic to reassemble it and have it on the road.

Before we ship your bike, we’ll call to review the final balance and receive final payment. If you used a credit card, we’ll ask for permission to apply the final charge. We never charge a card without your permission. We will also double-check your shipping information and coordinate a delivery schedule if needed. We’ll include a final copy of the paid invoice in your shipment and we’ll email you the tracking number so you can keep an eye on the shipment’s progress. For international shipments, your full invoice will be provided to the shipper as required by law and you will be responsible for all VAT, duty and other costs your country may charge you.
